 Need Assessment Survey

  Objective of the Need Assessment Survey (NAS) is to identify an appropriate area for deploying a MeLT along with the type of last mile connectivity / communication technologies and the type/level of knowledge e-contents to be delivered through the MeLT.

Scope

 
 
     
 
  1. A team of two student volunteers and a faculty member from the Institute will carry out a physical survey of the nearby area using a suitable transport and a GPS device.

  2. The team will go to secondary schools / degree & PG colleges / Polytechnics / ITI’s.

  3. The team will identify the route to each school/college and its location using GPS.

  4. The team will fill in a questionnaire (to be provided by IITR) by interacting with the principal/ teachers / students / staff of the school/college.

  5. On return from the trip, the team will enter the data from the questionnaire into a database using data-entry software (to be provided by IITR) and will transfer the stored data from GPS device to a map of the region using a mapping software (to be provided by IITR). The team will go to secondary schools / degree & PG colleges / Polytechnics / ITI’s.

  6. At least 40 to 60 schools/colleges are expected to be covered in the survey spread over 10-15 working days.

  7. At the end of the survey, the team along with the coordinating faculty from the Institute will give their recommendations for the following:
    (a) The area (marked on the map of the region) where MeLT should be deployed,
    (b) The type of last mile connectivity / communication technologies to be provided in the MeLT, and
    (c) The type and level of knowledge e-contents to be delivered through the MeLT.
    (d) Proposed weekly schedule for MeLT van.
    (e) Is adequate furniture (tables & chairs) available in the schools where MeLT project is proposed to be run?
    (f) Any other recommendations that they will like to make on the MeLT deployment.
